Tam has been
singing barbershop harmony for 34 years. He joined his first chorus in
1977, was a member of the British Champion Chorus the Crawley Chordsmen in
1978, and he is currently a member of The Sussex Harmonisers.
He has been a
member of a series of quartets over the years since 1979, and has sung on TV,
radio and as backing vocal in animations, including one for Disney. Apart from
many dinners, weddings and shows, he has sung at Livery Company Banquets, at
Epsom Races and all day on a train for First Great Western railways. He has
sung competitively in music festivals and in National Barbershop Contests, up
to Semi-Final level, both as a bass and singing tenor. He was also in The Music
Man produced by Crawley Operatic Society in 2009.
Outside barbershop harmony he
has sung with a major Sussex Choral Society and with the Esterhazy Chamber
Choir: and still regularly sings Gregorian Chant, West Gallery (Sacred
Psalmody), and Shapenote music. He has also sung solo professionally for a
Church in Surrey, and with his Ukulele has sung and performed at dinners and
Ladies' Nights. He says his motto is: "A Day Without Singing is Day
Wasted".. He also regularly announces and acts as MC in engagements and
shows with The Sussex Harmonisers.
